Romeo and Juliet Sequel Essay

It has been 10 years now that Romeo and Juliet have lived their lives together secretly. They live in a small village called Mantua with their two children, Antonio and Christina. Their marriage is still a secret to their families. The Friar and the Nurse know but have not told anyone of it. Lord and Lady Capulet still grieve over Juliet’s death. With the death of Lady Montague and the banishment of Romeo, Lord Montague sold everything he owned. He now lives alone miserably in a small house in the outskirts of Verona. Both of the families despise each other.

Romeo has found a job to provide for his growing family. Juliet stays home to care for their two year old son and their newborn daughter. Juliet spends hours thinking if her parents will ever get to see their grandchildren. Romeo grieves over his mother’s death and worries about his father whom he hasn’t seen in 10 years. They have heard little news from Friar and nurse. Once in a while they will receive a letter from Friar but saying little of their families. Other than that life is wonderful for Romeo and Juliet. They love each other more than they have ever had. They are so happy with their lives and have forgotten most of the past. They somehow wish sometimes they could just see their families again.

One day Romeo and Juliet received a letter from the Friar and nurse. The letter said that Romeo’s father was dying of a disease and wanted to see Romeo before he died. The letter also said that Lord and Lady Capulet were getting a divorce because they constantly fought over whose fault it was for Juliet’s death. Romeo and Juliet decided they were going to Verona and going to tell their families the truth. Juliet hoped she could stop her parent’s divorce by showing them she is still alive.

The day came when Romeo and Juliet snuck back into Verona with their children to meet the Friar and nurse. Romeo, Juliet, Friar, and nurse went to Lord Montague’s house first. Romeo entered his father’s bedroom and saw his father lying in bed. Romeo hugged his father and he explained everything to him. Juliet let Lord Montague hold their children. Lord Montague cried just before his death and said to Romeo and Juliet that he was sorry for never having the chance to watch his grandchildren grow up. Lord Montague told Juliet to tell her parents that he loves them and the past is forgotten.

They left Lord Montague’s house and headed to Lord and Lady Capulet’s house. Nurse knocked on the door and Lord Capulet answered it. Nurse told him that Juliet was still alive. Lord and Lady Capulet didn’t believe it to be true. Juliet then appeared in front of them. Juliet’s parents cried for joy and hugged Juliet. Friar and nurse explained the truth to the Capulets’ and told them the message of Lord Montague. Lord and Lady Capulet were filled with joy and decided not to get a divorce. The Capulets’ invited everyone to stay for dinner to celebrate. At the dinner table Lord Capulet made a toast “Let there be love where there is hate.”
